creating a new space

Another Place Crosby

I’ve often thought about starting a blog, but it seems odd to me that I want to put words out to anyone who might want to read them because I’m quite a private person, so it has been put off for years. So why create this space, and now? One reason is that I want to explore the different themes and areas of life that I’m involved in through my research and practice and just general day to day, and so to develop my thinking. I have a love-hate relationship with study, and writing in particular and over recent years have really struggled with writers block. From the various books I have dipped into about this the common theme is that just turning up and writing is the best solution to this kind of problem (I’ll write more on that another time). I think and learn through writing, and making a start by airing some thoughts has got to be a good thing, so I’m creating a space to do that and to begin a new journey of discovery. Don’t expect polished posts, but rather, thoughts on the way.

Why In the Spaces?

In my research I discovered that giving opportunity to people to explore a topic or experience by using a camera to help them express opinions and feelings produced some fantastic results. Those taking part in the project could put their own words to images that they had taken or curated. The data this produced was richer and in more depth than I would have anticipated had I just used questionnaires. It is often in the spaces that we create for ourselves (or others give us opportunity to have that space in our busy or other-filled lives) that deep connections are made and we get a fresh or different perspective. Spaces to pause, to stand back, to look at the bigger picture, to connect with our faith and our spirit are those which I seek to create and help others to do so too. Life can get full with other stuff, so it is an intentional thing to find those spaces and to make those connections. I hope this makes sense! It’s what I hope this space might become.
